NUESTRO CUENTO

Cuentero means storyteller in Spanish. But if you were living in Colombia in the 1990s you might know of another use for this word. Say it was a Sunday and you spend your afternoon on the Plaza de Usaquén. You end up walking around with family and friends after a delicious meal and a fruitful visit to the flea market. Suddenly, in the middle of the town square, you'd end up listening to someone starting to project their voice and – in an act of magic – they would start telling an entertaining story. This is a cuentero, weaving tales in the tradition of the oral storytelling that links us since ancient times, as cave paintings and sitting around a fire do too. And thus, Cuentero Productions was born, to continue in the same spirit of connecting around a well-woven story!

OUR STORY

“As interdisciplinary artists, tinkerers, craftworkers, producers, and writers, the main goal of our multimedia projects is to expand narrative, LINGUISTIC, and truth-telling possibilities and formats THROUGH STORY.”

— CUENTERO’S ORIENTATION AND GOAL

Cuentero's ethos is that we want to add poetic, oral, intertextual, and truthful aspects to the interdependent worlds we create in multimedia storytelling.

And our constant is that our productions generate a portrait of the perceived “other” full of understandings and acknowledgments of the worlds we share, holding ourselves to account.

Be it four best friends on a downward spiral in the Andes, insurgent sheriffs and their plans to make the U.S. a white republic one county at a time, or a father and son connecting around memory and identity thanks to a fútbol match final from a VHS tape, to name a few, these are some of the elements and aspects that we guide ourselves with and use as a moral, artistic, and narrative compass.
